Almost all of my Thankgiving recipes have turned up online this year. The latest is the one for Cheddar-herb biscuits. There are apparently several versions of this recipe, but the one I like has thyme in it. I can't find the sweet potato recipe that I like to use anywhere: maybe I'll post it here.
My Thanksgiving planning went like this this year:
Two weeks before: order turkey from Rainbow (fresh and organic!)
One week before: check in with all guests.
Weekend before: finalize menu, put out request for food to guests (can't do it all with just the one tiny oven anymore)
Monday: do shopping. (Buy extra turkey for later since it's so cheap.)
Tuesday: cook pies and cranberry chutney. Vacuum house. Buy another card table and chairs.
Wednesday: make stuffing. Find plates.
Thursday: lose my mind
This year's recipes
1789 Sausage stuffing (the infamous three-porks "heart stopper" stuffing)
Apricot/mint/pistachio vegetarian stuffing for the baked squashes
Mashed potatoes and gravy (of course!)
Sweet potatoes with honey and lime (this recipe does not appear to be available online)
Chocolate Pecan Pie (the recipe I've been making the longest)
Cranberry ginger chutney
The guest list:
Brother and sister in law (bringing pumpkin pie, cranberry relish, and black walnut ice cream fixins)
Nick (bringing cheddar herb biscuits)
Melanie, my former boss (bringing some vegan dessert)
Matt and Pam (our mahjong and gaming buddies - bringing a cooked greens dish and the creamed corn gratin with onion rings and bacon)
Mike and Nina (their third time - must remember to remove cat hair better so Mike doesn't have an allergy attack - bringing vegan gravy and a green bean dish)
Tom and Ellen (his roommate - bringing beer)
Malaika and Erik (new friends - bringing a carrot/turnip bake)
The post-dessert guests:
Corinna
Desirae and Eli (hopeful)
Andrew and Cyra (more hopeful)

Alas, while I am in the hallowed pages of Tablet, they didn't bother including a byline. Fooey.
Note that my crocuses decided to bloom last week, which is odd as October is not, technically, springtime.

I keep getting hits from Jaqueline Massey Paisley Passey's blog (which I won't promote by linking to it) on the phrase "Why we don't get elected," an entry which oddly only focuses on how Libertarians can be rude at parties and not at all about how they are more concerned with being on the ballot than running electable candidates. So if you've come over here looking for my experience dealing with Ms. Passey, "The Most Irritating Woman in Seattle" (smart? yes! obsessive? yes! freaky, narrow-minded zealot? yes!), you should go here. As an election night special, I've changed the security on this entry so anyone could read it. Enjoy!
