I've been reading Naked by David Sedaris off and on this summer, and I think I'm finding it inspiring. It's not that I'm planning on licking any mailboxes any time soon, but I think that revelling in one's ability to tell outrageous lies to total strangers is a pleasure that should not be underestimated.Posted by webcowgirl @ Aug 29, 2002 10:31:55 AM [Link]

Got a call from Hall Kinion this AM on a job requiring Test Director and SQL. And when I say this AM I mean at 8 AM when I was "nestled all snug in my bed" while "visions of being the star of a Victorian-era Russian Girlie show danced in my head." The job is at Iron Mountain in Renton. Will I rate a phone screen today some time between 1 and 3? Only time will tell. In the meantime, I was typing a funny little story last night that an IEXPLORE.EXE error ate, and the dog needs a bath. And I have a feeling Boo is going into heat again. Ah, this is the life!Posted by webcowgirl @ Aug 29, 2002 10:25:54 AM [Link]

Almost noon and I've placed a tile order, made a date to meet Connie at the beach, and am planning on hopping on my bike and riding over to Fremont in just a few minutes to have lunch with Rachel and The Boy.

We went to see Master of the Flying Guillotine tonight at the Grand Illusion. What a great flick! I'm sure it was made in the '70s but it had an almost industrial soundtrack. There were lots of impossible stunts (walking on the ceiling, the yogi who grew his arms to choke people) and even a girl kung fu fighter. The audience was very feisty, too, saying things like, "Now, that's going to leave a mark." Awesome!Posted by webcowgirl @ Aug 27, 2002 11:22:48 PM [Link]

Yippee, Connie wants to go to Tacoma with me! Or rather, she'll go to Connell's with me if I help her buy a swimsuit, possibly requiring that we go to a (gulp) mall together ... an activity which apparently both of us hate.

I'm definitely taking the job hunting more seriously these days. I'm even contacting people I interviewed with months ago to see if there's a whisper of hope in their departments (see "more"). But in fact, I wish I could not work any more. I'm plenty busy and very happy right now. In fact, post-trip, my face, the barometer of my stress gauge, describes a person who is completely at ease with the world.Posted by webcowgirl @ Aug 27, 2002 10:24:18 AM [Link]

"Be careful what you wish for." "You can't always get what you want." Well, I find that you often get the OPPOSITE of what you wish for, and that you almost can always get what you don't want. Translation: I had my "real" interview at MS today. I don't think I have the skills they wanted, but I don't really want the job, anyway. Of course, if I get totally desperate for money, they WON'T offer me the job. Just wait.Posted by webcowgirl @ Aug 26, 2002 3:34:35 PM [Link]

After an 11 hour trek across three states, we returned home today at around 6:30 PM. Yipes! We're both beat. We saw a bunch of really cool shit and ate some good grub, but we didn't see everything I wanted to and we both feel like there wasn't enough down time (being in the car driving didn't really count). I had a nice message about a FURTHER interview with the Borg waiting on the answering machine, so while I don't REALLY want to work there (I actually had a dream while we were gone in which I was being interviewed for this job, and they asked me, "Why do you want to work at The Evil Empire?" and I said, "Well, really, I don't"), I am certainly happy to take their money at this point in time.Posted by webcowgirl @ Aug 25, 2002 9:53:28 PM [Link]

Just had my interview, it was merely a screening interview with Assention and not with an actual Microsoft person. It went well, I was able to answer all the questions about SQL (thank goodness I had kept my SQL reference book and had JUST reviewed right and left joins!). I feel pretty confident that I'll be sent on for an interview, even though I don't know too much about networking and nothing about COM (those were only "nice to haves," not "must haves").

Well, it's late. We made it to Vancouver and saw the Carr etc. exhibit. We had a pretty good time, the drive up wasn't too bad (I of course slept for an hour) and we had lots of fun drawing in the galleries. We went to two lectures, one about Carr and one the kids' tour of the Carr/Kahlo/O'Keefe exhibit. I had a headache by 4:30 and we skipped the aquarium in favor of going home. Oddly enough, the border crossing was super quick, only 20 or so minutes. Sadly enough, although we did make it to the Little Theater at 8:45 the Puf N Stuff movie had finished its run the night before. So we wrapped up the night with a little gin rummy and some Boggle. Now if only I could a) find a house sitter and b) get that damn smell out of the carpet.

Yeah, now this is MARRIED, baby. I'm sitting here at 9 PM on a friggin' Saturday doing dishes, and they're not even the dishes I got dirty from having dinner 'cause I haven't even eaten. May I mention I am here alone so it's not even like being married, although in all fairness it's because Worthy Opponent went to see a LAME show and I didn't want to waste my time going to it. I hope I actually get off my ass and join Celine at the Mercury tonight, otherwise I'm just a total loser. The sad thing is that I feel like I'm falling into a coma right now, which is going to impair my going out.Posted by webcowgirl @ Aug 17, 2002 8:53:26 PM [Link]

I realized last night that, given that a standard job takes about 4 weeks from application to start date, that I need to get my friggin' ass in gear or I'm going to be staring at the Grim Reaper come about September 15th. Not that I want that to spoil my road trip or anything.Posted by webcowgirl @ Aug 17, 2002 1:51:11 PM [Link]

Woo woo, it's another big Friday night for a married couple, which means that Jason was totally wiped and didn't want to stay out past 9 even though I wanted to go to the Showbox and watch Ants Invasion. Oh well, not like they're not in towners. But I'm really sorry I didn't go see Cousteau when they were here, not like I knew they were any good at the time. But hey, Beck is coming with The Flaming Lips as his backing band! It's like the second coming of Christ, only something I actually give a shit about. Oh yeah, and About a Boy was really funny, although not in a deep and meaningful kind of way, but at least it didn't make be feel like I'd prostituted myself by going to watch it. Toni Colette was brilliant, of course.Posted by webcowgirl @ Aug 17, 2002 12:17:58 PM [Link]

Ooh, baby, I've been promoted to head of the Marketing committee for the Early Music group I work with! How exciting! I don't have the faintest idea of what I should do next. Neenur neenur Debi Robson, you psychotic, back-stabbing, paranoid pathetic excuse for a techie! (I thought I'd never do volunteer work again after dealing with her! She made working in an all-woman organization look like the cliquey little nastiness party I never imagined could happen outside of a sorority hall.)Posted by webcowgirl @ Aug 15, 2002 11:24:42 PM [Link]

I think the answer is that it is in fact both PMS and my mother in law. She has it! But it was hard to notice today since we spent so much time with her folks. The Taming of the Shrew was fun, but Wooden O kicked Greenstage's butt.Posted by webcowgirl @ Aug 11, 2002 11:40:46 PM [Link]

Oh, let's see, I went to see About a Boy Wednesday after the block meeting, and surprise! There isn't a 9:20 on weekdays. A completely pleasant and non-stressful day. Spent the AM at Ranier Vet with the black dog about what turned out to be a hot-spot. Grandparents and I joined W.O. in Fremont for lunch at the Red Door, where I ran into my good buddy Kirsten who I hadn't seen for over a year, then we went for a stroll along the canal. Afterwards we went to the Conservatory and took a walk around Volunteer park. They really liked the conservatory!Posted by webcowgirl @ Aug 5, 2002 11:46:41 PM [Link]

After breakfast, W.O. went to a baseball game with Grandpa, I went downtown (and to the art museum) with Grandma. After a big homemade spaghetti meal, we played the Mad magazine game. Yes, the exhibit at S.A.M. is not worth $10. But I had a really fun day anyway.Posted by webcowgirl @ Aug 4, 2002 11:08:36 PM [Link]

Days one and two with the grandfolks have gone pretty well. Iolanthe was a hoot. The fairies with their bleached blonde bob wigs and tight purple and green costumes, the cute little female lead with her bleached blonde wedge wig and her riding pants and whip ... it was simply a case of some of the worst production values I had ever encountered. I was sure that there was an entire group of male fairies on stage until the excess of jiggling and lack of pit hair convinced me that they were, in fact, women.Posted by webcowgirl @ Aug 3, 2002 10:17:50 PM [Link]

Warning: LaDonna's (psycho christian) cleaning service is to be avoided. In one hour I got fifteen minutes of bitching, 1/2 hr of vacuuming the already-vacuumed areas, and 15 minutes of dish washing. The dishes aren't even clean. Net result: she made me cry, the house looks only moderately better, and I'm out $50. It would have been better if she had never come and I had just worked calmly along. Great way to prep for the Fortnight of In-law Madness!Posted by webcowgirl @ Aug 2, 2002 11:27:10 AM [Link]

Well, all of this frim-fram has been resolved, with the net result that I have the ring in question (my brother had TWO rings, which didn't match each other one bit) and he and I are now on somewhat better than speaking terms. The conversation with my uncle this AM was kind of ugly to start out with but ended with him apologizing for being so callous (and offering to pay for the phone call, which is like fully admitting guilt). And the interview went well, too. I'd call the day a big fat success.Posted by webcowgirl @ Aug 1, 2002 10:49:41 PM [Link]
