"Glad to know who's a relative."

"Now I know where I stand."

"Good thing Grandma saw me as a member of the family."

"I am not your niece. I am not your daughter. We are not related to each other."

etc

I'm wondering what the difference is between being immoral and unethical. Similarly, what makes someone a "slut?" Where does the perjorative aspect come in?

In other news, I've got a job interview at 4thpass Thursday. This is good news, since they are actually a going concern, unlike many other Pioneer Square companies. And they might actually decide whether or not they want to offer me a job in less than a month, unlike Washington Mutual.

Here it is 7:15 on a Saturday, and I am up. I have been up since 6 AM. Why? Because that is when Amy came home. I am supposed to drive a car for three hours today and I can't see it happening.

Just got back from Lake Goodwin ... yech. I do get a kick out of white-trashing it up now and then but not when I want to actually swim and the water is filthy and I can't even take advantage of the delightfully cheap lakeside snack bar. So for amusement I was left looking at the sad rural teenagers and listening to the Ski-Do's roaring by incessantly. At least the dogs had fun. And my diet is over tonight. Maybe I can end it now and go get some pizza ...

Why is it so hard to keep friends? What makes the switch flip that makes one person not want to have anything to do with another when they were formerly close?

I never thought I'd say this, but I hate the Seattle Police department's lack of interest in policing my neighborhood. I have noticed an increased skank level in the neighborhood (guy on corner selling drugs, bottles on street every morning, summertime "people on streets" doing God knows what at 3 AM on a weeknight), and then I found out yesterday that there's been a crime wave on 16th street, only a block away, with lots of car break-ins and people trying to kick down the door of this guy's house to rob it while he was home. Then another person reported that there were prostitutes soliciting basically outside his door on 16th. And a third person reported that they've got wandering youth gangs stealing stuff off people's porches ... and inside their houses.

And what is the police department's response to this? "The Central District is safer than it's been in 20 years." So what, they're not responsible for us any more since murder and rape is down? What crap. "Organize a block watch ... you're more likely to get a response if more people call in." Why should it take 15 people to get the response that a single person should get? I told the guy who answered the phone last night at the east precinct that I was feeling so worried at times that I was thinking about getting a gun (the thought has crossed my mind). What did he say? "That sounds like a good idea." I CAN'T BELIEVE IT! What, we are supposed to do the policing ourselves down here? I feel like I deserve the same amount of safety in my house as the people in Madrona and Wallingford do. I swear, it seems like there are two different cities in Seattle, and the one city likes to pretend like the other doesn't exist. "Oh, break-ins and drug dealing is just petty crime ... that's what you get for choosing to live in the Central District." No, that's what I get for living in a city with a screwed up police force.

8:30 A.M. and Snowdogs ... two great tastes that fully ruined my morning. I hate spending a day dragging my butt because I didn't get enough sleep. And to not get enough sleep because Snowdogs called is adding insult to injury. Do they really think I want to commute to Bellevue for a crummy $15 an hour job? Or work for some loser company that won't pay its contractors overtime? At least I got to Fred Meyer's today, and I'm ready to get the back yard fixed up in preparation for the arrival of the Sleights ... after I get some sleep.

I guess summer was about two days long this year because we got the shit rained out of us at the potluck today. Two hours before I was stressed because the sky was quite heavy looking, it had rained hard in the morning, and thunderstorms were predicted for the afternoon. Holy shades of my Star Wars croquet party! I saw a month of planning heading quickly down the toliet.
